Maruti Suzuki Ciaz vs Honda City: The Hot Clash
There is no doubt that these two competitors are among the bestselling sedans in the country. As far as the sales are concerned, the Honda City achieved more sales than the Marut Suzuki Ciaz. Moreover, there are only two Honda cars that are making Honda survive in India and those offerings include the City and the Amaze.
Having said that, the sedan competition has become more competitive after the introduction of the Skoda Slavia and the Volkswagen Virtus.
In terms of dimensions and engine output, both cars are more or less the same and that is why they are compared a lot. But, in terms of price figures, they have a major difference. The Ciaz is positioned below the City, despite being more than four metres.
Further, the majority of the Maruti Suzuki cars make up the major sales for the company. Their bestselling cars include the Dzire, Alto K10, Celerio, Grand Vitara, and the Ciaz, to name a few.
However, let’s begin weighing the Maruti Suzuki Ciaz with the Honda City.
Specifications
For starters, it is worth noting that neither of the carmakers offers a diesel version of the Honda City or the Maruti Suzuki Ciaz. Gone are the days, when they used to cater to torque lovers, but due to emission norms and a decline in sales of diesel cars, several carmakers have ditched diesel engines.
The 2023 Honda City, which is a facelifted iteration is powered by a 1.5-litre i-VTEC petrol engine, which is tuned to produce 119.35 bhp at 6600 rpm and 145 Nm of peak torque at 4300 rpm. It misses out on standard hybrid technology, unlike the Ciaz. But, Honda India took out a separate strong hybrid version of the Honda City. You can check out the City Hybrid price on the autoX website.
On the other hand, the Maruti Suzuki Ciaz is also powered by a petrol engine but has mild-hybrid technology. The K15 Smart Hybrid, which is a 1.5-litre naturally-aspirated unit can churn out 103 bhp at 6000 rpm and 138 Nm of peak torque at 4400 rpm. Unlike the Honda City, this indigenous sedan misses out on strong-hybrid technology.
As for the transmission options, the Honda City is coupled with a standard six-speed manual gearbox and an optional seven-step CVT. In parallel, the Maruti Suzuki Ciaz can be had with a standard five-speed manual or an optional four-speed torque converter. If you are a performance-oriented transmission, the automatic version of the Maruti Suzuki Ciaz should be your pick. Check out the Ciaz price, especially the automatic version on the autoX website.
As far as fuel efficiency is concerned, the Maruti Ciaz’s mileage is rated at 20.4 km/l and 20.65 km/l in manual and automatic versions, respectively. On the other hand, the 2023 Honda City’s mileage ranges from 17.8 km/l to 18.4 km/l, depending on the engine and transmission combination. All are ARAI-certified mileage figures. Please note that the real-world fuel economy can most likely vary with individuals’ driving styles and local traffic conditions. However, as seen on other Maruti cars, the Ciaz may return a better fuel economy than the Honda City, irrespective of the transmission. The Maruti Suzuki Ciaz’s price is positioned on the lower side, as a result, it is more affordable.
Moreover, the Maruti Suzuki Ciaz has a slightly bigger fuel tank, rated at 43 litres, making 3 litres more than the Honda City’s 40-litre tank. For your reference, a vehicle with a large fuel tank tends to offer more range than a vehicle with a small fuel tank.
Keeping the engine performance aside, let’s now jump to the suspension setup offered on these two sedans. But, it is worth noting that both cars are engineered by keeping the conditions of Indian roads in mind. Both sedans have a soft suspension and a soft suspension tends to encounter undulations and absorb the bumps from potholes with ease. But, it can increase the body roll around the corners. Speaking of rideability, the 2023 Honda New City received cosmetic changes and those include a revised front and rear bumper, a rear lip spoiler, alongside a rear diffuser. So, these visual elements usually result in improved aerodynamics. You can, however, check out the 2023 City review on autoX.
The Maruti Suzuki Ciaz and the Honda City have the same suspension setup, but the latter has a slightly superior setup. However, both have a McPherson Strut with Coil Spring at the front and a Torsion Beam with Coil Spring at the rear. But, the City boasts telescopic hydraulic Nitrogen gas-filled shock absorbers.
Moreover, both sedans shouldn’t let you lament the ride quality they’d offer. Although, it is always recommended to take a test drive of your dream vehicle so that you can get to understand more about the vehicle.
Features
As far as the features go, the Honda City is more well-equipped than the Maruti Suzuki Ciaz. It has a remote trunk opener, remote engine start/stop, trunk light, a wireless charger, paddle shifters, and one-touch operating windows (all doors). You won’t find these features in the top model of the Maruti Suzuki Ciaz. Given the City’s price, it shouldn’t let you lament about the number of offerings that it offers.
In terms of entertainment features, the Honda City has an eight-inch touchscreen infotainment unit, while the Maruti Suzuki Ciaz has a seven-inch touchscreen infotainment screen. Both the units support Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. The updated model of the Honda City bags more connected car tech features, and they include a telematics control unit, Google Assistant and Alexa compatibilities, and voice command.
The petrol-powered Honda City misses out on the idle start/stop feature, making it, unlike the Maruti Suzuki Ciaz.
As for more notable features, the updated Honda City boasts a rain-sensing wiper, a sunroof, dual-tone diamond-cut alloy wheels, and ADAS. Further, the ADAS features include a collision mitigation braking system, adaptive cruise control, lane-keeping assist, lead car departure warning, auto high-beam assist, autonomous emergency braking and road departure mitigation system. Last but not least, the fifth-generation Honda City also has a lane watch camera. Moreover, the Maruti Suzuki Ciaz has only dual airbags, while the Honda City has six airbags. Besides that, the Ciaz secured a four-star safety rating, while the ongoing City secured a five-star safety rating in the Global NCAP’s crash test.
Please note that the features mentioned above belong to the top variant of the Honda City and the Maruti Suzuki Ciaz.
