Renault Kwid vs Maruti Suzuki Alto K10: Budget-Friendly Vehicles
In general and in this comparison, the Maruti Suzuki Alto K10 is one of the bestselling Maruti Suzuki cars in the country. The indigenous carmaker sells the Alto K10 in both petrol and CNG versions, while the French carmaker offers the Kwid in petrol only.
As far as the pricing goes, the Maruti Suzuki Alto K10 has a starting price of Rs 3.99 lakh, while the Renault Kwid starts from Rs 4.70 lakh. All are ex-showroom figures. That said, the Kwid will most likely offer more features than the Alto K10, as the former commands more premium than the latter.
However, let’s see how the Maruti Suzuki Alto K10 stacks up against the Renault Kwid, in terms of features and specifications.
Specifications
For starters, let’s talk about the chassis of these two cars. The Maruti Suzuki Alto K10 is based on the Maruti Suzuki-designed HEARTECT platform that underpins the S-Presso as well.
On the other hand, the Renault Kwid is made on the Renault-Nissan CMF-A+ platform that underpins other Renault cars, such as the Triber and the Kiger as well as the Nissan Magnite.
As far as the figures go, both vehicles have a 1.0-litre petrol engine only. But, the Alto K10 also caters to CNG-oriented buyers.
Under the hood of the Renault Kwid, you will find a 1.0-litre (999cc), three-cylinder, naturally-aspirated, petrol engine, which is tuned to churn out 67 bhp at 5500 rpm and 91 Nm of peak torque at 4250 rpm. This engine can either be had with a five-speed manual or a five-speed AMT gearbox.
In contrast, the petrol version of the Maruti Suzuki Alto K10 has a K10C, 1.0-litre (998cc), three-cylinder, naturally-aspirated petrol engine that can churn out 66 bhp at 5500 rpm and 89 Nm of peak torque at 3500 rpm.
Weighing the figures of the petrol versions, the Kwid is more powerful. Check out the Kwid price here.
In addition to that, the CNG version of the Alto K10 is equipped with the same engine as the petrol version but has less engine output. That said, the CNG version produces 56 bhp at 5300 rpm and 82.1 Nm of peak torque at 3400 rpm. If you want more mileage, hands down the CNG version of the Alto K10 is the pick. In terms of transmission options, the petrol version of the Maruti Suzuki Alto K10 is available with a five-speed manual transmission and an optional five-speed AMT gearbox. The CNG version of this homegrown car, on the other hand, is exclusive to the five-speed manual gearbox.
As far as fuel economy is concerned, the Renault Kwid’s mileage ranges between 21.46 km/l and 22.3 km/l. On the flip side, the Maruti Suzuki Alto K10’s mileage ranges between 24.39 km/l and 33.85 km/l. These are all ARAI-certified mileage figures. It is also worth mentioning that the mileage figures can vary with the combination of engine and transmission, the local traffic conditions and individuals’ driving styles.
As you can see the ARAI-claimed mileage of the Alto K10, the fuel economy is one of the reasons behind its popularity. Check out the location-based Alto K10 price on the autoX website.
Keeping the engine output aside, let’s now jump to their suspension setups. The Renault Kwid has a MacPherson Strut with lower transverse link suspension at the front and a twist beam suspension with coil spring at the rear. On the other hand, the Alto K10 stands on a MacPherson Strut with a coil spring at the front and a torsion beam suspension with a coil spring at the rear. However, it is worth mentioning that these vehicles are engineered keeping the conditions of Indian roads in mind. You can also check out the 2022 Alto K10 review to know more about it.
Having said that, these two shouldn’t let you lament about the ride quality they will offer. In addition, they have also proven to offer comfort-oriented rideability thanks to their soft suspension setups. For reference, a soft suspension can do a better job of absorbing the bumps from potholes than a stiff suspension will.
Apart from that, the top-most variant of these two cars is equipped with disc-drum brakes. Both run on steel rims. However, there is a difference in their tyre profiles. The top variant of the Renault Kwid has a tyre profile of 165/70 R14, while the top variant of the Alto K10 has a tyre profile of 145/80 R13.
